SUPPORTING ABORIGINAL LEARNING: REFLECTIONS FROM THE VOICES OF OUR YOUTH VIDEO PROJECT

Supporting Aboriginal Learning: Reflections from the Voices of Youth was created to highlight the unique experiences of Aboriginal youth during the transition from elementary school to high school. The purpose of this DVD help educators and other professionals working with youth to understand some of the challenges Aboriginal students face as they transition from elementary to secondary school. The DVD presents Aboriginal students discussing the successes and challenges they have encountered through their experiences in school.

The students explain the various experiences, activities, and events that have helped ease their transition into high school and suggest advice and strategies that are beneficial to Aboriginal students during this time. They also voice their opinions on many topics such as the importance of having support from educators, First Nations counsellors and family throughout their school years. Moreover, students discuss the importance of Aboriginal culture and identity and ways to incorporate these important elements in the school setting.

The DVD concludes with the students offering advice for educators and students based on their experiences.
